Misi Chanel Ogunlana started her clothing line, KIWI&YAM, in 2015 and grew it into a six-figure business with customers around the world. Scaling it was the hard part: manufacturers demanded high minimum order quantities, so money that should have gone into marketing and the rest of the business went into stock instead.
After working in fashion at Amazon and Net-a-Porter, she set up a consultancy helping designers launch their own labels, and found them stuck on the same problem. Minimum order quantities were keeping good designers out of production.
Being Nigerian, she could see an answer close to home: local artisans able to make garments to a high standard with no minimum order. TFB Studios.AI connects people who want clothes made with vetted artisans in Africa, using its own AI matchmaking. It is already serving clients around the world, ahead of building out its full technology platform.
